Help

Short answers to the questions readers, responders and writers ask most. If yours is missing, send it through the contact page.

Reading

Do I need an account to read?

No. Every story, profile and topic page on IvoryPen is open to everyone, with no sign-in and no paywall.

Is it free?

Yes. Reading, following by RSS and writing responses cost nothing.

Some stories are in Vietnamese. Is that expected?

Yes. Writers publish in the language they write best in, and many write in Vietnamese. The interface is in English; the stories keep their own language, accents included.

Following

How does the Follow button work?

Follow is an RSS feed. Copy the link from a writer’s profile (it ends in /feed.xml) into any feed reader, and new stories from that writer appear there.

Can I follow everything at once?

Yes. The feed at /feed.xml includes new stories from every writer on the network.

Why don’t I see follower counts or likes?

IvoryPen does not show them. We prefer stories to be found by reading rather than by popularity numbers.

Responses

How do I respond to a story?

Scroll to the thread under the story, enter a name and your response, and press Respond. No account or email address is needed.

Why isn’t my response showing yet?

Every response is reviewed by a moderator before it is published. Most are approved; responses that are never approved are deleted automatically after 30 days.

Can I edit or delete a response I wrote?

There is no account to edit from, so send a Privacy request through the contact page with the story and the name you used, and we will remove it.

Writing

How do I become a writer on IvoryPen?

Writer accounts are by invitation only. Choose Request an invitation on the contact page and tell us what you would like to write about.

Who owns what writers publish?

The writer does. Publishing here gives IvoryPen permission to host, display and distribute the story, for example through RSS. Writers can ask for a story or their whole profile to be removed.

Reports and privacy

How do I report a story or a response?

Use the contact page, choose Report a post or response and include the link. A person reads every report.

Someone copied my work. What should I do?

Choose Copyright on the contact page and include a link to your original and a link to the copy.

What does IvoryPen know about me?

Very little. The privacy page lists each piece of data, why it exists and when it is deleted.
